The Indigenous Education Division (IED) of the Greater Victoria School District was established following the work of a Commission formed in 1979 through a partnership between the School District and the Victoria local of the United Native Nations. The Commission reviewed and made recommendations regarding the educational and cultural needs of Indigenous students within the district. This important work led to the creation of the First Nations Education Division, now known as the Indigenous Education Division (IED).
The Greater Victoria School District resides on the traditional territories of the Lkwungen Peoples. We respectfully acknowledge the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, on whose lands we live, learn, and work. Hay’sxw’qa – thank you. The District remains committed to supporting programs, learning opportunities, and curriculum that deepen understanding of Lkwungen history, teachings, values, and language.
