This guide supports school libraries in Greater Victoria School District No. 61 in the ongoing work of decolonizing and Indigenizing library spaces and practices, with a strong focus on relationship-building and reconciliation. It highlights that healthy relationships are at the heart of learning and that Indigenous students have the right to feel a sense of belonging in their school communities. The guide encourages teacher-librarians to work alongside Indigenous students, families, and communities to thoughtfully develop respectful library spaces, programs, and collections that reflect Indigenous voices, experiences, and knowledge systems. Grounded in ongoing professional learning, Local Education Agreements, the Professional Standards for BC Educators, and the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, it supports creating inclusive library environments that honour all learners.
