About the Program:
The Campus Cousins Program is an Indigenous student peer mentorship and leadership initiative that connects Indigenous students in Grades 10–12 with younger peers across the district. Serving as role models, mentors, and leaders within their school communities, Campus Cousins help create welcoming and supportive environments where Indigenous students feel valued, connected, and empowered. Through relationship-building, mentorship, cultural engagement, and leadership opportunities, the program fosters a strong sense of belonging, community, and Indigenous identity. Campus Cousins support younger students as they navigate their educational journeys, while encouraging confidence, personal growth, well-being, and success both inside and outside the classroom.

Being a Guardian:
While the Campus Cousins Program is coordinated by the SD61 Indigenous Education Department, the success of the program also depends on the support and guidance provided within each school. As a Campus Cousins Guardian, you play an important role in mentoring and supporting Indigenous student leaders as they develop their leadership skills and build meaningful relationships with younger students. Guardians help create opportunities for Campus Cousins to connect, lead, and grow, while providing encouragement and guidance throughout the school year. Your support helps ensure that Indigenous students feel empowered in their leadership roles and strengthens the sense of community, belonging, and cultural connection that is at the heart of the program. The positive impact of the Campus Cousins Program is made possible by dedicated staff members like you, who help nurture the next generation of Indigenous leaders and support Indigenous student success both inside and outside the classroom.
